The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the ill treatment of the Nigerian national football team by Libyan authorities during the now boycotted AFCON qualifier match. The House directed the House committees on Sports and Foreign Affairs investigate the matter and report back within four weeks.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Kabiru Ahmadu during plenary on Tuesday. It would be recalled that the Super Eagles and Nigeria Football Federation team flew to Libya for the qualifier, however, they were detained at the airport for over 14 hours. This was after their flight was diverted mid-air to a remote location.

The players subsequently refused to play the game and returned back to Nigeria, with the NFF filing a petition to CAF in protest. In the motion, Ahmadu lamented the treatment of the Nigerian delegation, stating that action of the North-African country must not be allowed to go unchecked. Consequently, the House resolved that the committees should probe the circumstances surrounding the entire ordeal.
