Reps frown at violation of interstate travel ban

The House of Representatives has expressed concern over violation of the Presidential order banning interstate travels and the nationwide lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing security agencies of complicity in the violation of the Presidential directive.

Adopting a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Ndudi Elumelu and Nine others, the House asked the government establishment of a special task force to implement the interstate lockdown. Part of the regulations he said also include the mandatory use of face mask in public places as well as maintaining physical distances and personal hygiene and restrictions on social and religious gatherings.

Elumelu also expressed concern that at a time like this when movement is being restricted worldwide there are videos of massive movements of travellers mostly smuggled in trucks carrying food items or livestock from one part of the country to another, this a complete drawback to the COVID-19 containment effort.
