Primary schools in Wigan were reportedly put on a temporary 'lockdown' on Tuesday afternoon as parents and carers were sent worrying messages.

A message from St James' shortly before 3pm on Tuesday afternoon said the school was 'currently in a lockdown situation' and that nobody could 'leave the building until further notice'. Parents and children living locally told the M.E.N. how they learned of the lockdown which is understood to only have lasted for a brief period.
