[TOP STORY] Report: Nollywood films dominating Anglophone West African cinemas since 2019 | TheCable
, the entertainment company, showed that Nollywood films have been dominating cinemas in Anglophone West African countries since 2019., titled ‘Nigeria Box Office Year Book 2022’, examined the percentages of Nollywood and Hollywood movies released in cinemas across the region from 2016 to 2022.
In 2020, which witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic, Nollywood also accounted for 50 per cent of movies in the cinemas while Hollywood had 37 per cent.Further breakdown showed a similar trend in 2021 as Nollywood had 57 per cent compared to Hollywood’s 43 per cent.
