The Federal Inland Revenue Service confirmed that companies with untraceable addresses evaded taxes to the tune of N17.69bn, according to a report by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation for 2015.

The Senate issued the order based on the recommendations by the Committee on Public Accounts in its report on the audit queries issued by the auditor-general for the year under review. The service is to recover and remit a total sum of N32.45m into government coffers within 90 days, with evidence of compliance submitted to the auditor-general and the committee.

In the query against the FIRS, the auditor-general said, “The Federal Inland Revenue Service failed to recover the total sum of N17,690,341,565 from different companies in the year under review.
