Rainstorm: Edo govt assesses damage in community, promises relief materials vanguardngr.com vanguardnews
Governor Godwin Obaseki, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mr. Yakubu Gowon, said the state government will assist victims of the incident.
According to him, “We are here to assess the level of damage caused by the rainstorm. The incident brings to the fore the need to be environmentally conscious and strive to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. We have undertaken a tour of the affected areas in the community and will ensure that the community gets the necessary support to spring back to life.”
He said that the state government is strengthening its emergency response institutions to be able to effectively respond to emergency such as the one that was witnessed in the community, noting, “We are strengthening the relevant emergency institutions in the state to be able to respond to the issues that arise from this sort of issue as well as undertake sensitisation on practices that can mitigate the effects.
One of the victims, Mrs. Zelon Areoro, expressed appreciation to the governor for coming to their aid, noting that the community would be relieved if assistance came their way so they can go back to their normal life. Chairperson of Ofunama Community, Pastor Abel Ajemiri, thanked the governor for the gesture, noting that the community appreciates the state government for the quick response.
