There will also be live music and sport at the Kirkby-in-Ashfield venue

A pub that belonged to Wetherspoon for more than a decade has been bought after being put up for sale last year. Locals were gutted when The Regent, in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, closed down, saying it would leave a large gap in the community.

But after nine months on the market, it has been taken over - although the new owners haven't identified themselves. However, they have revealed some of the highlights that await, from a new menu to TV sports. In a post on Facebook, they said: "We are hoping to be open and running a smooth service from the beginning of July. Many of the current staff are staying with us so you will have a lot of familiar faces greeting you upon your visit."We have got so much planned to improve and bring the venue to a more community standard. We will also be bringing new items to the menus along with a traditional Sunday roast dinner.

"We have plans to bring in live entertainment on the weekends too from DJs to live artists and bands. We cannot wait to get stuck in and meet our fellow community members of Kirkby-in-Ashfield." The pub, in Diamond Avenue, was originally a 1930s cinema and later became a bingo hall. It was turned into a £1.4m Wetherspoon pub in 2013 and was officially opened by European and Paralympic gold and silver medallist champion swimmer Ollie Hynd.
