Recently, Apple finally allowed emulators in the Apple App Store. But things haven't been smooth sailing, and already a Game Boy emulator was taken down swiftly. But more emulators are expected to come, including Provenance.
According to iMore, Provenance is a multi-platform emulator coming to the Apple App Store. Provenance will offer emulation of consoles like the Sony PlayStation, SEGA Saturn, Nintendo Virtual Boy, Nintendo Gamecube, and more for iPhone users. The developer also plans to support SEGA Dreamcast, Sony PlayStation 2, and other devices in future updates.
However, the release date for the emulator hasn't been confirmed. The project lead of Provenance, Joseph Mattiello, said the team will first have to investigate the Apple App Store rules on emulators. The team will also need to improve the emulator's quality of life and change some things to comply with the new rules. Note that this doesn't make emulating copyrighted games legal, so you'll at least have to prove you own an original copy of the game you're emulating.
Anyway, retro console emulation doesn't sound that attractive of a deal if you can't use it to play all the games you want. But what do you think? Please share your thoughts in the comments on our Facebook page, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
