A tragic stampede at a children's funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, has claimed the lives of 32 children. Authorities have arrested the organizers, with reports linking Prophetess Naomi Shikemi and broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat to the event. While the radio station Agidigbo FM, owned by Hamzat, denies being the organizer, stating it was only a media partner, the incident has sparked widespread outrage and investigations are ongoing.

Ex-Queen of the Ooni of Ife, Prophetess Naomi Shikemi, and an Ibadan -based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat have been accused of sponsoring the tragic Ibadan funfair that caused the death of several children. DAILY POST gathered that about 32 children were reportedly killed in a stampede that occurred during the event in Ibadan the Oyo State capital. The incident occurred in the Bashorun area of the city, early hours of Wednesday.

The State Governor, Seyi Makinde had in his reaction, said that the organizers are already in custody. 'While investigations are ongoing, the primary organizers of the event that led to this stampede have been taken into custody', he said. Although the governor failed to reveal the identities of the organizers, emerging reports said Prophetess Naomi and Hamzat sponsored the event. However, reacting to the unfortunate incident, the management of Agidigbo FM, owned by Oriyomi Hamzat, said the radio station was only a media partner to the event. “Amidst the tragedy, the news making the rounds is that Agidigbo FM is the organiser of the children’s funfair. 'However, the management wishes to state that Agidigbo FM is not the organiser of the event but one of the media outfits used to promote the event', management of Agidigbo FM said in a statement. According to reports, the victims were stampeded to death while trying to break through the main gate of Islamic High School, Bashorun, where the event took place
