The Nigerian Red Cross has warned that the proliferation of cult groups in primary and secondary schools in the country is a ticking time bomb.

A member of the National Governing Board of the NRC, Sir Eddy Ogidi–Gbegbaje, gave the warning when the members of the Oshimili South Division of the NRC honoured him with the presentation of a trophy won by the Ogidi-Gbegbaje House. The Ogidi-Gbegbaje House has for three consecutive times emerged the overall best in the First Aid and Leadership Training programme.

Ogidi–Gbegbaje, also the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Government House and Protocol, urged youths and teenagers to take advantage of the programmes offered by the NRC to make significant contributions to building up a peaceful society where opportunities could abound for their development.“I’m always pleased and happy when I see the young ones making useful contributions to nation building and they should be encouraged,” Ogidi-Gbegbaje stated.

Earlier, the South-South National Disaster Response Leader and Coordinator of the Red Cross, Asaba, Paul Orukamaya, said Sir Ogidi-Gbegbaje had contributed greatly to the success of the body. He commended Ogidi-Gbegbaje for his public–spirited disposition and urged him to continue in the same spirit.
