Exclusive: Private NSW schools want more autonomy over COVID-19 response | JordsBaker natassiazc
Independent school principals say they want the freedom to make decisions about their schools within health guidelines, rather than having to follow a one-size-fits-all approach decided by the NSW government for big decisions.
A team within the Department of Education has begun looking at overseas return-to-school experiences, reviewing last year’s approach, which involved one day a week in class for each student, and assessing options, which include having the earliest years of primary school return first. “Rather than trying to prescribe a one-size-fits-all approach for all sectors, AISNSW calls on the NSW government to instruct NSW Health to provide schools with clear COVID-safe parameters,” he said. “Once these parameters are established, principals should be given the autonomy to create a manageable, COVID-safe environment for their school’s individual context.
