“All PoS/lotto shop/kiosks around Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA are mandated to pay a sum of N600 only. It is a weekly fee from revenue generated; payments are to be made through Trilling Volant Services.'
Some Point of Sale operators and mobile banking agents have accused the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area in Lagos State of imposing an illegal levy on them.learnt that the LCDA had on July 8, 2020, passed a circular imposing a weekly levy of N600 on the operators.
“Kindly note that failure to comply will bring our enforcement team to lock up your shop or remove your kiosk/banner and it will attract a fine of N5,000 before reopening.”, urged the authorities to stop the collection of the levy, which they described as exploitative and an additional burden to bear.
“Since we got the circular, we have been trying to talk to the chairman of the LCDA, but we have not got any response from him. We learnt that that the levy was not approved, but it was an idea brought up by some people in the LCDA to exploit us.” “Sir, we humbly, on behalf of our clients around your constituency, request that you use your good offices and exalted position to reconsider this position.”
“The issue we have here is that the local government is equating mobile banking with lotto agency, which is not supposed to be. Lotto agents are not being taxed every day but we are already charged 7.5 per cent on all our transactions, so there’s no reason why we should be categorised with lotto agents.
