Wike had in a statement by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simon Nwakudu, raised the alarm over the alleged planned kidnap of Effanga, to allow for the postponement of the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections scheduled for March 9, 2019. However, in a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt, the state Commissioner of Police in the state, Usman Belel flayed the comment, describing it as unfounded, vowing that the comment would be investigated.
“The committee remains irrevocably committed and untiring in its efforts to ensure that the gubernatorial and state Assembly elections scheduled to hold on Saturday are peaceful, credible and devoid of violence.” He regretted that the allegation was coming at a time when the security agency ought to be encouraged, promising that the command would remain firm in its quest and efforts for peaceful and violent free polls.
