A teenage protester has been shot in the chest by police during violent protests in Hong Kong

, according to local media reports.

A video of the incident at Yau Ma Tei showed a violent confrontation between police and protesters. Live warning shots were fired during that incident, however there were no reports of anyone being hit by live rounds. A security clampdown in the city failed to thwart the protests, which organisers said were attended by at least 100,000 people marched along a broad city thoroughfare in defiance of a police ban, chanting anti-China slogans and some carrying Chinese flags defaced with a black cross. Police didn't provide an estimate of the turnout.

So far, the opposite has happened,” he said. \n\nImage: AP\n“The more people are pushed, the more they get their backs up and the more they are defiant.”\n\nMr Bland’s comments come following yet another day of violence, in which riot police in Hong Kong have used rubber bullets and water cannons as protesters threw bricks and molotov cocktails.
