Policemen have laid siege to the office of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights in the Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja area of Lagos State.
The PUNCH learnt that the officers, who were armed to the teeth, arrived on the premises early Wednesday to stop a planned protest against the detention of Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement.
An official of the CDHR, who spoke to The PUNCH on condition of anonymity, said no fewer than seven police vehicles were on the premises. “It is not likely for us to go on with the protest now. We will wait for our national body to speak on the matter. Our correspondent also gathered that officers of the Department of State Services laid siege to the premises of Sahara Reporters in Lagos.The spokesperson for the police in Lagos, Bala Elkana, could not be reached for comment as his phone rang out.
