Police detained, killed our brother over false allegations – Family
Five policemen – among them a tracker, Yomi alias System, allegedly carted away appliances including two television sets, phone, Abiona’s bag containing his charger and his brother’s iPhone charger that afternoon, before taking the duo to Mokola Police Station.
With the help of a relative serving in the military, their search eventually took them to the Inspector General of Police’ Special Tactical Squad located around MOPOL Junction, Ayobo in Ipaja, Lagos, where operatives at the weekend disclosed Bolarinwa was dead. This was after allegedly denying many times that he was not in their custody.
“They called my brother an armed robber, someone that has not been taken to court. How can a suspect be called an armed robber when he has not been charged to court? “When we got to Obalende, we called him, he told us that he was on his way to Abuja and will call my brother-in-law and give him a full detail of my brother’s offence. Whenever we called, he would cut off the phone. So, one day, I got a lawyer to call him to demand for my brother’s offence and whereabouts. He said they were involved in armed robbery. This is different from what they told us when they took him to Mokola.
“We went there the following week which was the sixth week after my brother had been arrested. These people started fighting with us because we insisted on an answer. We were told that the commander was not around and they didn’t know when she would return to the office,” he stated. The police then promised to bring other suspects who allegedly confessed to the crime. Oboye was expecting to see his brother among the suspects. But four persons showed up and they were largely inconsistent. The first one who spoke claimed to have he known Olaolu who he said was their leader. He claimed he used to get them guns whenever they went to rob.
“We paid no attention to him because we felt he might have entered the wrong place since he left hurriedly. Then, a woman who sells rice opposite our place came in and it seems she gave a sign but we did not understand what it was,” he said. However, police sources disclosed that Bolarinwa died as a result of ill-health and his body was being held because he was an alleged active suspect in the bank robbery operation.
