More than 100 students began demonstrating at the oval in front of the Kelvin Smith Library by noon.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – More than 20 students were detained and released Monday at Case Western Reserve University over protests involving the Israeli-Hamas war.
As the students demonstrated, the school’s president, Eric Kaler, put out a statement that said that the university supported their rights to free speech and that Case police will protect the students’ rights to “peaceful freedom of expression in accordance with our policies.” “We recognize the protestors for their efforts and appreciate efforts toward civic — and civil — engagement on this pressing international issue,” Kaler said in the statement.
“Kaler, Kaler, you can’t hide. We charge you with genocide,” protesters chanted while marching through campus Friday morning after conducting a “die-in” demonstration.
