Two brothers have been arrested for allegedly killing their neighbor over accusations of witchcraft in the Kashin Dila Fulani village in Malam-Madori, Jigawa State. The suspects, identified as Husaini Ali, 45, and his younger brother, Ya’u Ali, 20, reportedly attacked 55-year-old Hauwa Yusai, inflicting fatal injuries with sticks and knives.
The Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that the attack was motivated by superstition. The assault took place on October 16, 2024, around 1:30 a.m. after the brothers accused Yusai of practicing witchcraft. Police officers, responding to a distress call, rushed the victim to Hadejia General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Upon investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime and have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further processing. DSP Lawan assured that the suspects would face full legal consequences, stating the command’s dedication to justice. Lawan added that Jigawa State Police Commissioner Ahmadu Abdullahi condemned the violence and urged citizens to report suspicions to authorities rather than resorting to vigilantism.
