A preference deal between the Liberals and Clive Palmer is not off the cards after a Newspoll revealed a rise in support for the United Australia Party.
Speaking to Sky News on Tuesday, the Prime Minister would not rule out preference deals with Mr Palmer, saying the Liberals are ‘talking to a number of parties’ as they confirm arrangements ahead of pre-polling.
It comes despite Mr Palmer once comparing Scott Morrison to Adolf Hitler, after the then-treasurer commented on allegations against the controversial mining magnate over the collapse of his Queensland Nickel refinery. Responding to the results of the Newspoll, which reveal the UAP holds between five and 14 per cent of the primary vote across four marginal seats, Mr Morrison said it’s evident the election ‘will be close’ and ‘everybody’s vote will matter’.
