Long jumper Ese Brume and wrestler Blessing Oborududu have been receiving plaudits after both athletes won medals for Nigeria at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Oborududu became the first person to win an Olympic wrestling medal for Nigeria, while Brume followed the footsteps of Chioma Ajunwa and Blessing Okagbare who won a gold medal and a silver medal respectively for Nigeria in the women’s long jump in 1996 and 2008. “I feel relieved, it is soothing that we finally won a medal at the Olympics. At least, we are not coming back home empty-handed,” Aliu told The PUNCH.“I am happy, at least the bronze is better than none. I was jumping on the TV, we were all happy for Blessing too. Odunayo Adekuoroye is still in contention too, so we are still hoping for more medals,” Ogunkoya said.Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar hailed the duo.
