A 56-year-old farmer has reportedly been hacked to death by herders while trying to stop them from grazing on his millet farm in the Miango community of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The deceased's son, Stephen, who confirmed the incident to journalists on Friday, said his father was hacked to death on Thursday evening when he went to inspect his farm. Stephen explained that on getting to the farm, his father noticed the Fulani herdsmen grazing their cattle on the farm, destroying the crops. He stated that upon approaching the herders in a bid to ask them to take their cattle out of his farm, the herders attacked him and hacked him to death with their machetes.
“My father then approached them with the intention of asking them to remove their cows, as they were destroying the crops. And that’s how the herders attacked him. They used their knives and cut all his body, leaving him in a pool of his blood. And that’s how my father died eventually,' he said. He added that the incident was immediately reported to security agents by some people who witnessed it but typically, they did not take action till Friday when they came to begin investigations.
