It is believed the 17 projects will cut congestion and help create new jobs and homes.
Plans for 17 new roadwork schemes across the West and East Midlands have been put forward to the government.
The suggested schemes cover Birmingham, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. A report called Keeping the Midlands Moving lists four schemes originally earmarked for Road Investment Scheme 2 that were delayed, but still remain of "vital importance".
