The country continues to experience an increase in the number of coronavirus disease 2019 cases over the past week but the Department of Health maintained that the number of severe and critical infections remained below 1,000.According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the National Capital Region is experiencing a 'steep' increase in the number of new cases per day, which is now at an average of 350 per day.

Vergeire also said that nationally, there was a 57-percent increase in the number of cases, but all other areas in the country reported less than 150 cases per day.Despite the case increases, the number of severe and critical infections continued to be low at 591 cases, as most of those who had been hospitalized were mild or asymptomatic infections.The DoH on Monday reported that 4,634 new cases were added during the week of June 13 to 19.
