PETROAN highlights a significant N75 per litre price difference between petrol from the recently reopened Port Harcourt Refinery and the Dangote Refinery, raising concerns over the impact on businesses and consumers, while welcoming the benefits of reduced dependence on imported petroleum products.
The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria ( PETROAN ) stated that the price of petrol from the recently reopened Port Harcourt Refinery is N75 per litre higher compared to that of the Dangote Refinery . Dr. Joseph Obele, the PETROAN Public Relations Officer, expressed concern over this pricing disparity at the reopening ceremony. While the Dangote Refinery sells petrol at N970 per litre, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) sells it at N1,045 per litre.
Obele praised the federal government for revitalizing the old refinery but noted the impact of this price difference on businesses. The group's CEO, Mele Kyari, assured PETROAN of addressing the price gap to support marketers and consumers. Despite this issue, PETROAN welcomes the reopening as a step towards reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products
