World Institute for Peace has bemoaned the spate of electoral violence in the country ahead of the 2023 polls.
It also criticised security agencies in the country for their inability to curb the scourge which it said could impact badly on the elections. Speaking on Saturday, the institute’s Director in Nigeria, Lamina Omotoyosi, called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari to activate state machinery proactively, saying the electoral violence had lingered for too long in the country.
Omotoyosi said, “As the country is approaching the 2023 presidential election, the Federal Government must put in top-gear, measures to stop any act of political violence. The way political thugs are grouping in the country, especially in Oyo and Osun states, is becoming unbearable and this needs a very weighty action to halt its growth.
