Passport racketeering: Reps to probe Nigeria immigration Services over extortion
The green chamber also urged the Federal Government to investigate all alleged corrupt practices at passport offices.
The resolutions followed a motion by Chinadu Ogah on Thursday. According to Ogah’s motion, immigration officers charge as much as N50,000 for passport instead of the normal rates of N25,000 and N35,000.“The collection of cash by immigration personnel, instead of payment through Remita, which is the official TSA payment channel, is in gross violation of the policy of the Federal Government.”
The House, therefore, resolved to ask the Federal Government to ensure that all payments to the Nigeria Immigration Service are done through the appropriate TSA.
