A prosecution witness, Goddy Ihende, a Superintendent of Police, yesterday told the court that the corpse of Oluwabamise Ayanwole, who was allegedly murdered
by a driver, of the Lagos State Bus Rapid Transit, Andrew Ominikoron, was discovered by a passers-by on Carter Bridge in Lagos.
The police officer, who led a team of investigators that investigated the murder, told the trial judge Justice Sherifat Soniake of the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square that before the deceased’s body was discovered, the police were treating the case as a kidnapping case. Ihende also informed the court that the police decided to handle the case as that of abduction because the matter was initially reported as a kidnapping case by the complainants.
The seventh prosecution witness further testified that the police later discovered that it was not a case of kidnap but a case of death when the case went viral. The Lagos State government had arraigned Ominikoron before the court on a four-count charge of conspiracy, murder, and two counts of rape. The prosecutor has insisted that the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 411,223,260 and 165 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.While being cross-examined by the defence counsel, Abayomi Omotubora yesterday, Ihende stated that after the discovery, he and his boss, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Razak Oseni, went to the Directorate of State Security office and took over the case.
