The City of Painesville has received an $80 million federal grant for facility on old Diamond Shamrock facility

City has received an $80 million grant to transform old Diamond Shamrock brownfieldPAINESVILLE, Ohio - “It’s amazing, I mean, a once in a lifetime project,” said Painesville City Manager Doug Lewis on the plans to turn acres of vacant, contaminated land into a solar panel field. “It allows us to transition from our coal-burning power plant to clean energy.”

“For us and our solar purposes, we’re looking at about 150 acres on the initial 35-megawatt solar facility, possibility of expanding down the road,” said Tony Zamperdo, Painesville’s Assistant City Manager. A provision of the grant ensures that workers at the current plant still have jobs even after solar power comes online.
