Super Typhoon Mawar has become stronger as it approached the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), PAGASA said on Thursday evening.
In its 11 p.m. tropical cyclone advisory, the state weather bureau said the center of the eye of Mawar was estimated at 1,840 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon at 10 p.m.
It was moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour while packing maximum sustained winds of 205 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 250 km/h, and central pressure of 910 hPa.Based on its forecast track, the powerful storm is expected to continue moving westward until Friday while accelerating before turning more west-northwestward on Saturday. It is seen to enter PAR by Friday evening or Saturday morning and will be given the local name “Betty”.
