Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force said yesterday that it has uncovered the Delta variant of the COVID-19 in the state.
The state’s incident manager and coordinator of the Emergency Operations Centre, Dr. Olabode Ladipo, who confirmed the development, said the general public must take extra caution and consistently abide by earlier guidelines released by the Task Force. The governor’s chief press secretary, Taiwo Adisa, in a statement on behalf of the Task Force, said the team, “wishes to notify the general public of the isolation of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus in the state.”
The statement reads in part: “This strain has been associated with high transmission, increased severity of infection and outcomes.It warned residents of the state to continue to comply with all advisories aimed at curtailing the spread of COVID-19. The statement also asked all in-bound travellers to always isolate for seven days and submit themselves for tests.
