At least 111 defilement cases have been recorded by the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State within the period of three months – between April and June 2023. This was confirmed by the command’s Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, adding that the police are bothered about the state's rising number of defilement cases. He stated that 14 rape instances and 56 incidences of domestic violence were reported within the same time period.

During this period, a 26-year-old automobile technician popularly known as rewire, Sunday George, was also sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for defiling his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.
Justice Abiola Soladoye ruled that the prosecution proved the charge of defilement against the convict beyond a reasonable doubt.
