The Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun State-Owned Tertiary Institutions on Tuesday demanded payment of 30 months arrears of half salary that the state government owed its members.

Some categories of workers in the state received modulated salaries between September 2015 and July 2018.

The government off-set half salaries for some of the months in year 2018, and reduced the deficit to 30 months. The council, in a letter dated June 9, addressed to Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, said its members had suffered untold hardship due to the delay in paying the arrears. Also, in the letter signed by CASUOSTI’s acting Chairman, Mr Gbade Lana, and the acting Secretary, Sikiru Folorunsho, alongside six other leaders, the council frowned on withholding of deductions from workers’ salaries by governmentThe letter read in parts, “Specifically, we appeal that Mr Governor will ensure instant release of deductions with salary henceforth and immediately direct the payment of all outstanding deductions for the months of May and June 2019 as well as February, March and...

“The continued delay in off-setting the 30-month half salary arrears owed by the state government has heaped untold hardship on us. The most painful effect of this injustice is that deductions included in the money are meant for repayment of bank loans which have been accruing penal debit charges on a daily basis for three years now.”All rights reserved.
