The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State has acknowledged the public outcry over the congestion on the alternative pedestrian bridge in Oshodi following the closure of the main bridge connecting Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3. The main bridge was shut down in January due to safety concerns, leading to a surge in foot traffic on the alternative bridge.
Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, addressed the situation on his X account, expressing the ministry's understanding of the challenges faced by residents due to the high volume of pedestrians. He commended residents for adhering to the state's ban on highway crossing and urged continued compliance while the government works on solutions. The overcrowding has raised safety concerns among pedestrians, with viral photos and videos showing the bridge packed with commuters. There are also reports of increased theft incidents in the area.
