Feedback from students and staff on the refresh of classrooms at Orange High School has been overwhelmingly positive, says Ted Roseberry, the district’s director of business and operations.
“We finished the Orange High School refresh just in the nick of time,” Roseberry told the Orange Board of Education Monday .
Roseberry said he can’t say the project is completely done. But almost everything that needed to be finished by the start of the school year has been completed, he said.“We have a few punch list items ,” he said. “But for the size of the project and the amount of work that was done over the summer, the punch list is relatively small.”
“The sound system and the dimming of the lights has been the biggest hit I’ve heard so far ,” Roseberry said. “They just absolutely loved it. “Every single day, it got a little bit better and a little bit easier. Kids were walking around the first floor like it’s a brand-new building.” Roseberry said the district already has solicited bids for the shaft for a new elevator in the high school. He said he plans to seek approval from the board for that part in September.
Board President Scott Bilsky praised Roseberry and his team for all of their efforts in phase one of the project and “getting everything ready for the start of the school year.”Total cost of the two-phase project has been estimated at $6.1 million. ThenDesign Architecture of Willoughby is handling the design work. Also on Monday, Superintendent Lynn Campbell said he and Orange High School Athletic Director Tim Porter have proposed several changes to the district’s Athletic-Parent Handbook.
“Such actions are strictly prohibited and will be treated in the same way as unsportsmanlike behavior at an athletic contest. Together, we hope to establish a positive image of OHS.” “The coach is to directly report the incident to the administrator running the event and the referee/official. Likewise, parents/fans are to seek out and report such misconduct to the administrator running the event.Campbell said, “We want to make it clearer in our handbook that students, parents and fans know what to do if they witness something at a game.”
