The person believed to be behind the Optus data breach has revealed 10,000 customer records have been released and is demanding a six-figure payment to stop the leak or risk information of other account holders being disclosed each day.
The suspected hacker has also advised potential buyers it will cost $US 150,000 for user data records and $200,000 for addresses.
Optus is being asked to front up the $US 1 million in exchange for the information to be deleted and promised that only one copy exists."Since they not payed yet here is 10,000 record from address file. Will release 10,000 record every day for 4 day when they not pay." Almost 10 million current and former Optus customers have been impacted by the breach with Home Affairs Minister explaining it as a “basic attack”.
“Optus need to communicate clearly to their customers about exactly what information's been taken from specific individuals, and then needs to assist and support customers to manage the impacts of what is an unprecedented theft of consumer information in Australian history,” she said.
