The Workplace Gender Equality Agency says companies should aim to have women occupying at least 40 per cent of managerial roles for social and economic reasons.

And in one of those two sectors – healthcare – the proportion of female managers employed by blue-chip companies is low compared with the number of women who work in the industry.

The data captured women in professional and managerial roles in 123 of Australia’s largest listed companies, as of March 2021. It only covered companies’ Australian workplaces.Ms Wooldridge said companies should be aiming to have women occupying at least 40 per cent of managerial roles – which allowed for the vagaries of the recruitment process – for social and economic reasons.
