PETALING JAYA: Independent doubles shuttler Ong Yew Sin (pic), who with partner Teo Ee Yi proved he was a fighter with some sterling performances after being dropped from the national squad last year, now has another target.
After all, he had been on the sidelines in two outings. Yew Sin made the squad to the 2016 edition in Kunshan, China, but he and partner Teo Ee Yi played no part in Malaysia’s fine run to the semi-finals.
The world No 9 pair of Aaron-Wooi Yik are almost certainly assured of their place in the squad to the Finals in Aarhus, Denmark from Oct 3-11. “This will be my second Thomas Cup appearance if I get in. I didn’t manage to play a single match in my debut four years ago.Yew Sin is hoping that a series of good performances in the first three months of the year will carry some weight in the selection.
They also made it to the last eight of the Malaysian Masters and Indonesian Masters prior to the triumph.
