The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, has said the government is tackling the Lassa fever with vigour.
Adegbenro stated this at the meeting of the state Epidemic Preparedness and Response Committee on Friday in Akure, the state capital.
“The government has given the FMC beds, personal protective equipments; we are making arrangement for a 100KVA generator to power the incidence lab, chemistry analyser, dialysis machine and some other consumables that will be ready in the next one week.”Health workers in Cross River State have lamented the absence of isolation centre in the state.
Speaking during a joint interactive session in Calabar during the weekend, the Coordinator of GHA, Mr Solomon Ogbang, said, “No facilities are on ground to protect both the patients and the health workers. This poses great danger to health-care givers who are in direct contact with patients. All government does is issue statements promising that government is on top of it.
The Coordinator of Association for Protective Health, Mr Asuquo Nyong-Edem, a health worker in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, expressed dismay that an isolation centre, Centre for Emerging Pathogens Research and Management, that was started in the hospital has yet to be completed.
