The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has expressed his support for the implementation of Sharia law in the South-West region of Nigeria . Oba Akanbi defended the proposal, stating that Sharia has been practiced in Yoruba land for centuries and is already integrated into various aspects of life, including banking. He highlighted the existence of Sharia banks in the South-West , which operate according to Sharia principles.
The Osun monarch emphasized that Sharia law has been in Iwo for over 100 years and there is a Sharia college in the city.
