Members of the Olubadan-In-Council have described the planned attempt by a group of people to install and inaugurate Iyalode of Oyo State as illegal, saying such title is unknown to the law. The council made this declaration during its meeting presided over by the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, which was held at the Olubadan palace in Ibadan on Monday.
The meeting, lasting two hours, was attended by other members of the Olubadan-in-council, including key figures like Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Abimbola Ajibola, and several others. The council urged market leaders to suspend every other chieftaincy installation, particularly the one scheduled for Thursday, 28th November, 2024, at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, for the sake of peace in the region. The council also frowned upon the proliferation of chieftaincy titles among traders in the city and emphasized that only those installed with the knowledge of the Olubadan palace would be given appropriate recognition. It further advised market men and women in the ancient city not to let unnecessary bickering over political positions interfere with their primary duty of buying and selling
