The Apex Igbo cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, urges Nigerians to focus on unity and economic growth in the Southeast. The group supports President Tinubu's reforms but emphasizes the need for inclusive policies, especially for the 2025 census.

As Nigerians welcome the New Year, the Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo , has extended its warm greetings and called for a renewed focus on unity and economic empowerment within the southeast region.

In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bold reforms, particularly the establishment of Six Geopolitical Zonal Development Commissions, as a step towards addressing historical imbalances and fostering national integration. However, the group stressed the need for inclusive policies, especially as Nigeria prepares for the 2025 National Population Census. The organization urged the Federal Government to include ethnicity and religion as key categories in the census, emphasizing that accurate demographic data is critical for fair representation and resource allocation. 'The painful memories of previous census exercises, marred by distortions of ethnic data, must not be repeated. A credible census is essential to reflect the rich diversity of our nation,' the statement read. Ohanaeze also issued a passionate appeal to Igbo investors and business leaders to redirect their investments back to the Southeast. The group stressed the need to establish international economic hubs in the region, leveraging opportunities presented by the Tinubu administration’s proposed Tax Reforms Bills. 'It is time for Igbos to prioritize investments in their homeland. We urge our people to resolve this year to build resilient local economies and cease further investments in regions where our businesses have faced hostility and destruction,' the organization declared. In addition to its economic call to action, Ohanaeze reiterated its commitment to advocating for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kan
