In a statement released on Friday, January 24th, by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the organization declared Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of Rivers State .
The group further urged Governor Sim Fubara to refrain from actions that exacerbate political instability and instead prioritize peace and unity within Rivers State. Ohanaeze Ndigbo commended the Assembly's courageous decision to override Governor Fubara's veto on three crucial bills: the Rivers State Education (Return of Schools) Amendment Bill, the Rivers Electricity Market Bill, and the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry Bill, 2024. These essential bills, aimed at promoting the socio-economic well-being of all citizens, particularly the marginalized and economically disadvantaged, were presented to the Governor over a month ago.Ohanaeze expressed deep concern that Governor Fubara withheld his approval for these bills, which were designed to address the dire conditions faced by impoverished populations in Rivers State.
