The Apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has thrown its weight behind the leadership of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly under Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, while criticizing the actions of Governor Sim Fubara.

The Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo , has reiterated its unwavering support for the leadership of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly under Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule . In a statement released on Friday, January 24th, by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the organization declared Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of Rivers State .

The group further urged Governor Sim Fubara to refrain from actions that exacerbate political instability and instead prioritize peace and unity within Rivers State. Ohanaeze Ndigbo commended the Assembly's courageous decision to override Governor Fubara's veto on three crucial bills: the Rivers State Education (Return of Schools) Amendment Bill, the Rivers Electricity Market Bill, and the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry Bill, 2024. These essential bills, aimed at promoting the socio-economic well-being of all citizens, particularly the marginalized and economically disadvantaged, were presented to the Governor over a month ago.Ohanaeze expressed deep concern that Governor Fubara withheld his approval for these bills, which were designed to address the dire conditions faced by impoverished populations in Rivers State. The organization lauded the House of Assembly's resolve as both commendable and necessary in the face of the Governor's apparent disregard for the pressing needs of the people. The statement criticized Governor Fubara's presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill to Victor Oko-Jumbo, Adolphus Timothy, and Sokari Goodboy, questioning the representation of the genuine interests of the Rivers populace. Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasized that these individuals, whose track records did not demonstrate a commitment to advocating for the needs of the suffering masses, should not bear legislative responsibilities that demand profound understanding and dedication to the welfare of the citizenry. The organization also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's efforts to maintain a balanced political landscape in Rivers State, recognizing the importance of such support in preventing a 'one-man show' scenario under Governor Fubara's administration. Ohanaeze Ndigbo reaffirmed its belief that Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule embodies a symbol of hope and resilience for the preservation of democracy in Nigeria, especially during these challenging times marked by executive overreach and undue interference with constitutional provisions. The group concluded by stating that Governor Fubara's actions, seeking to assume legislative roles directly or indirectly, represent a clear threat to the democratic principles held dear by Rivers State and the nation as a whole
