Showunmi Urges Non-Indigenes and Hunters in Ogun to Back Tinubu in 2027
Bola Tinubu, Ogun State, Non-Indigenous Groups

PDP leader Segun Showunmi has asked non-indigenous groups and hunters in Ogun State to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027, with associations pledging their votes.

A prominent Peoples Democratic Party leader in Ogun State and convener of The Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has urged non-indigenous residents of the state and members of the Ilupeju Egba Tile Toko Hunters Association, Abeokuta, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.

Showunmi made the call over the weekend in Abeokuta while addressing representatives of various non-indigenous communities, including the Igbo Youth Association, Igede, Tiv, Calabar, Edo, Arewa and Igala groups. He urged the groups to mobilise their members across their respective communities and participate actively in the 2027 general elections. Showunmi also called on residents across Ogun East, Ogun West and Ogun Central to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the election.

Ogun Central And West Voter Turnout Mobilisation

According to him, Ogun Central alone has more than one million registered voters, while Ogun West has over 900,000. He specifically urged residents of Ogun West to mobilise their communities for the President and ensure a strong voter turnout. He said, I am begging you in the name of God Almighty, let us mobilise until, if possible, we take the whole one million votes for Tinubu.

He stressed the importance of the election as a platform for national unity and regional balance, and highlighted the role that these communities have played in the state's socioeconomic advancement. Showunmi appealed to non-indigenous residents living in Ogun State to regard the state as their home, noting that many had lived, conducted businesses and prospered peacefully in the state. He said, Non-indigenes should regard Ogun as their home because many have lived peacefully and prospered in the state without discrimination.

He further urged the groups to judge Tinubu's administration based on its performance rather than allowing political differences to determine their choices at the polls. He said the 2027 election should also provide an opportunity for Nigerians to demonstrate that no individual or ethnic group was superior to another.

Federal Projects In Middle Belt And Benue State

The former Atiku aide cited some Federal Government projects in the Middle Belt, including a military base, proposed state police arrangements and road projects linking communities in Benue State with Abuja, as part of the developments he said should be considered by voters. Showunmi urged the various non-indigene groups to take the mobilisation message back to their communities and work towards securing votes for Tinubu and other candidates aligned with his administration.

He framed the vote as a collective act of liberation for the country and emphasized that Nigerian governance must continue to rotate among the regions. He argued that a successful election outcome under Tinubu would reinforce the political equilibrium between the North and South, reducing the likelihood of unequal power distribution. He also appealed for peaceful participation, hoping that the 2027 election would avoid conflict and instead represent a united front across the nation.

Responding to Showunmi's plea, the Chairman of the Non-Indigene Association of Ogun State, Egba Zone, Francis Nwanze, confirmed the group's endorsement of Tinubu's candidacy. He lauded Showunmi for his love for non-indigenes and for always giving them recognition, saying Showunmi has been an inspiration to non-indigenes in the state and continued to associate with them.

Non Indigene Association Endorsment Of Tinubu

Nwanze recalled past cooperation between the association and Showunmi, noting that the leadership had supported the association's activities for twenty years, including financial aid and community development. He boasted that the association, which started many years ago, has become a viable platform consisting of people with good character. He committed his group of over 1,000 members to cast their votes for Tinubu.

Also, while addressing the Ilupeju Egba Tile Toko Hunters Association, Showunmi urged them to continue supporting Tinubu and rally around the President whom he described as their son. He stated that their support became necessary because Tinubu has performed creditably well as Nigeria's President and there is need for the President to consolidate on his reforms.

Ilupeju Egba Tile Toko Hunters Support Tinubu

Showunmi, who prayed for the emergence of President Tinubu in the 2027 election, said Nigerians would be better off if Tinubu is re-elected to continue the good work he has started. The Seriki Ode Egba, Chief Bamgbose Michael Olusegun, who also doubles as the Secretary of the Ilupeju Egba Tile Toko Hunters Association, Abeokuta, declared their support for the re-election of President Tinubu. The event highlighted the continuing significance of non-indigenous populations in Ogun State's political landscape.

By uniting under a common political objective, these groups demonstrate an active role in shaping the future trajectory of national governance, while reinforcing the idea that every Nigerian citizen, regardless of origin, has an integral stake in the nation's democratic process. The moral underpinning of the event was the belief that fostering solidarity across ethnic and regional lines is vital for maintaining peace and harmony, a concept that Showunmi and his colleagues framed as a strategic approach to avoid future conflicts and ensure stable governance for the next decade.
