Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele narrowly avoids attack by MAPOLY students protesting against pending results, NYSC mobilization delays, and tuition fee hikes. Convoy detours to avoid confrontation after students become agitated upon recognizing the Deputy Governor. Students claim police fired at them first, while authorities allege students were armed and attempted to attack the convoy.

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State , Noimot Salako-Oyedele, narrowly escaped an attack by protesting students in Abeokuta on Wednesday. Salako-Oyedele was on her way to the 35 Artillery Brigade Alabama to represent Governor Dapo Abiodun at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony when she encountered the demonstration. The protesters, students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic ( MAPOLY ), had begun their march from the school gate, heading towards the Governor's office in Oke-Mosan.

The students' protest stemmed from several grievances, including pending results for graduated students, delays in NYSC mobilization, and an increase in tuition fees. In response to the Monday protest, MAPOLY management shut down the school indefinitely and dissolved the student union executives. However, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun JCC Chairman, Adeyanju Francis, condemned these actions and vowed to organize a Wednesday protest against the institution's decisions.According to a statement released by the Governor's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the irate protesting students, armed with sticks and other dangerous objects, became agitated upon recognizing the Deputy Governor's convoy. Despite the presence of security personnel and police officers urging them to remain calm, the students attempted to attack the convoy. To avoid a potential confrontation, Salako-Oyedele's convoy took an immediate detour to her lodge, allowing the protesting students to pass peacefully. The statement confirmed that the incident resulted in obstruction of vehicular movement, damage to some security vehicles, and injuries to security personnel attempting to maintain order. When contacted by DAILY POST, Francis refuted the allegations of student aggression, claiming that police officers attached to the convoy opened fire on the students first. He stated that the students were marching peacefully to express their grievances to the Ogun State government and that the situation escalated when police opened fire. He further claimed that the students were unharmed, and that they only began chasing the vehicles after being shot at. Francis strongly denied any involvement of students in carrying sticks or other weapons, emphasizing that the accusations against them were baseless and intended to tarnish their image.
