The governor has been running from pillar to post, seeking political refuge outside the party that made him governor and fraternising with strange bedfellows.
Since last Friday when Godwin Obaseki, investment banker and governor of Edo State, was disqualified by the All Progressives Congress Screening Committee, he has not rested.An ego war is ravaging the ruling party in Edo. Some observers believe that Obaseki seems to have an exaggerated opinion about himself because power and wealth have drawn a wool across his eyes.
The governor resigned from the APC, thereby drawing the curtains on his membership of the Progressives Governors’Forum. His move strengthened, not only the division in the Edo APC, but also the polarisation of the state. He has two narrow and challenging options. The embattled governor, said his deputy, philip Shuaibu, had defect to the Peoples Democratic Party , which once doubted his academic credentials and even approached the temple of justice to make a pronouncement on his claims about four years ago.
The struggle for power will not be cost-effective. Also, the result of his new permutations, in spite of the enormous partisan investment, is uncertain. Thus, for the embattled governor, this electioneering is remarkable for apprehension.
