The blockade demolished by the Perak government was meant to protect Orang Asli rights and heritage, says Jakoa director Juli Edo.
The Orang Asli Development Department has defended an anti-logging blockade set up in the interiors of Gerik, which the Perak state government demolished yesterday.
"The community because of their pride and ethnohistory, which links them as direct descendants of Perak Man who lived 13,000 years ago."This action was not to oppose development planned by the state government, but was an effort to protect their rights and heritage," Juli said in a statement today.
