Nzimande interdicted from placing Unisa under administration
The high court ruling was made on Friday morning following an urgent application by Unisa's council. The court ordered Nzimande to withdraw his notice of intention to place the institution under administration and ordered him to pay the costs of the application.
On Thursday, Nzimande said he had delayed his decision on the notice on mutual agreement with Unisa to extend the period for written representations to September 4. On that day, Adams explicitly directed Nzimande to refrain from implementing any of Mosia's report recommendations until the resolution of the two distinct applications contesting it. One of these applications was initiated by Unisa's council chairperson, James Maboa, who was seeking an interdict to prevent Nzimande from appointing an administrator.
Unisa said the appointment of Mosia as an independent administrator remained 'irregular at many levels' and his report findings were 'highly flawed'.
