Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says NSW will consider an increase to its health budget to ensure the state is prepared to deal with a 'severe local outbreak' of coronavirus

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says NSW will consider an increase to its health budget to ensure the state is prepared to deal with a "severe local outbreak" of coronavirus.

Several other options being considered include "temporary, targeted measures" for small businesses, funding for tourism recovery and fast-tracking the repairs and upgrades of local infrastructure."We must guide NSW through this temporary shock with a steady hand, not a knee-jerk response - and we will be working with industry over the coming days and weeks to get it right," Mr Perrottet told the Tax Institute Summit on Wednesday.

Mr Perrottet said a "perfect storm of external events" - the coronavirus threat, drought and the bushfires - would have an impact on the June budget. He said a "single clean-up contractor" had been deployed to lead the massive clean-up effort, although there was a preference for local subcontractors to be used wherever possible.
