The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has thrown its weight behind Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia for a second term in office in 2027. This endorsement comes amidst political turmoil in the state, sparked by conflicts between Governor Alia and prominent figures like Senator George Akume and Chief Samuel Ortom. The Forum's decision was based on an assessment of ongoing infrastructure projects and initiatives implemented by Governor Alia, which they believe demonstrate his commitment to transforming Benue State.
The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC , Forum has endorsed Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia for a second term in 2027, amidst political tensions in the state stemming from conflicts between the governor and prominent figures like the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume , and his predecessor, Chief Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The APC Forum's decision followed a comprehensive inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects and initiatives spearheaded by Governor Alia in Benue State. \The endorsement was announced by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum and a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 election, in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja. Zazzaga highlighted that the projects inspected included the rehabilitation of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where Governor Alia is constructing a N1.6 billion waterworks project, as well as underpass projects in Makurdi, the state capital, and Gboko. Members of the Forum also observed numerous road construction projects, including 16 roads within Makurdi and Zone A, the Manyam–Unongo Village–Adikpo (23km) and Tyowanye–Uga (21km) roads in Kwande and Buruku LGAs, and the renovation of the 40-year-old State Secretariat and the State Assembly. \The APC Forum acknowledged that Governor Alia is making significant strides in transforming Benue State despite opposition from some political leaders. They stressed their support for a second term for the governor, believing it would allow him to solidify his vision for the state and, by extension, the North-Central region. Governor Alia faces a political battle against both Senator Akume, a prominent APC leader in Benue State, and Chief Ortom, the PDP leader. There are concerns that the conflict with Akume, which has led to divisions within the Benue chapter of the APC, could jeopardize Alia's chances of securing a second term. However, the North-Central APC Forum urged the governor to persevere with his mission to develop Benue State and not be swayed by individuals driven by self-interest. The statement emphasized that despite distractions, Governor Alia is effectively transforming Benue State through numerous impactful projects. These endeavors, upon completion, will not only enhance the state's economy but also alter its image from a rural, underdeveloped region. \Among the key projects highlighted by the APC Forum are the underpass projects in Makurdi and Gboko, part of an urban renewal initiative aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, boosting the state's aesthetic appeal, revenue base, and investment attraction. The Forum also commended the completion or near completion of 16 strategic roads within Makurdi, the 'Light-up Makurdi' solar-powered streetlight project, and the transformation of the Benue University Teaching Hospital. The statement also recognized the establishment of a polythene and nylon factory, a nail production company, a fashion and ICT hub, and the expansion of bread and water factories by the Benue Investments and Property Company Limited, all under Governor Alia's administration. These initiatives are projected to create 300 direct and 400 indirect jobs, generating significant economic benefits. Furthermore, the Forum highlighted the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project, a major undertaking by Governor Alia's administration
