Justice Dipeolu stated this at the official commissioning of the Magistrates’ Court, Ido-Oke, Igbesaland in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council of the state. The CJ, who stated that the increasing rape cases in the country had become worrisome, said: “Rape has become a global phenomenon and the appalling side of rape in our clime has to do with recklessness of the perpetrators, lackluster response of justice administrators and absence of institutional supportive system to help the victims.
Meanwhile, the police yesterday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Taiwo Odetunde, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged defilement of two friends, aged 13 and 14, whom he lured with a promise of sowing face-masks for them. The prosecutor, Inspector Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 9, 2020 in Ado-Ekiti.Ikebuilo urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions .
The plea of the defendant was not taken.The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Adefumike Anoma, consequently remanded the defendant at the Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till July 27, 2020 for mention.
